Japanese Imperialism: The Korean Dynasty was imperialized in 1910 by the Japanese. The Japanese wanted to colonize Korea for trade because they were close to the sea and that would bring in good trading opportunities. To make this colonization possible, the Japanese used their military. March 1st, 1919: Korea protested their rights to be free and overthrew Japan. End of World War 2: Korea gained its independence once it overthrew Japan. After that, Korea split into North Korea and South Korea; North Korea was run by the Soviet Union, and South Korea was run by the United States. North Korea was also the communist country while South Korea was the democratic country. Start of Korean War: The Korean War took place on June 25th, 1950.
